With already limited resources due to ongoing conflict, this disaster has made an already dire situation even worse.

Recently, a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Myanmar, resulting in unfathomable losses of homes and loved ones as well as the destruction of centuries-old invaluable cultural heritage. Thousands are confirmed dead, many more are still trapped under debris and rubble, and the number grows as rescue operations are stalled by broken infrastructure, blocked roads, and a lack of support. The air is heavy with the stench of decomposing bodies, and hospitals are overwhelmed beyond capacity. With the ongoing military coup, this could not be a worse time for this disaster. As survivors cry out for help, they are met not only with silence but with the sounds of bombs and gunfire from the military junta. In some areas, rescue workers are being shot at, and airstrikes continue to hit already devastated zones. The military junta has blocked the flow of information to the outside world, spreading misleading narratives while hiding the true scale of the crisis.

Myanmar is in need of immediate international attention and aid. As students living away from our country, we, as the Burmese Club of Pasadena City College, want to seize this opportunity to call for international aid by raising awareness and organizing fundraising efforts to support frontline relief.

Our funds will be directly going to Better Burma, a US-based 501(c)(3) and a nonprofit humanitarian organization. Please take a part in Myanmar’s recovery by donating any amount or raising awareness. Any little effort can make a great impact.

Already reeling from a brutal military coup and ongoing civil war, the country is now devastated by a deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake. The humanitarian emergency in Myanmar continues to worsen. Thousands have been displaced, families are separated, and basic necessities are out of reach. Entire communities are overwhelmed, and they need our help and attention.

Better Burma, a podcast I have been listening to for a while which covers not only spiritual but social aspects of Myanmar, is launching a rapid and strategic response, grounded in a three-phase plan to provide emergency relief, support recovery, and build long-term resilience.

Phase 1: Emergency Relief

Right now, Myanmar is facing a humanitarian crisis of devastating proportions. The ongoing conflict has left millions displaced, with limited access to medical care, supplies, and essential relief. Families are struggling to survive in makeshift shelters, while doctors and medics risk their lives to provide care with scarce resources.

We are two individuals, Su Latt and Hothal Patel, based in the U.S., coming together to raise funds for relief efforts following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and parts of Thailand on March 28, 2025.

One of us has family in Myanmar, and while they are safe, they’ve witnessed firsthand the devastation and loss caused by the earthquake. Thousands of lives have been lost, many more have been injured, and entire communities have been displaced. Seeing the impact on her home country, she wanted to take action—and together, we decided to launch this fundraiser to help those most affected.

We are raising funds to support Better Burma, a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with trusted partners inside Myanmar to deliver life-saving emergency aid. We chose Better Burma because of their transparency, local connections, and their focus on getting resources directly to the people who need them most.
