Support Bergmann Center's Recovery from Storm Damage
Dear Friends and Community Members,
We are heartbroken to share that the Bergmann Center, a vital resource for individuals with disabilities in Northern Michigan, has suffered catastrophic damage due to a recent storm. The power outage caused the sewer system to back up into our facility, flooding and devastating the entire building. Key areas such as our kitchen, activity lounge, exercise space, furniture resale area, laundry room, bathrooms, and executive offices have been severely impacted. Equipment and furniture throughout the facility were also damaged, leaving us with an overwhelming challenge to restore what was lost.
About Us:
For over 60 years, the Bergmann Center has been a beacon of hope and empowerment. Founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities, and inspired by the visionary work of Lillian Bergmann, we’ve provided a safe haven, life-enriching programs, and unwavering advocacy. Lillian believed that individuals with disabilities could lead fulfilling, independent lives when given the right support—a legacy we carry forward today.
The Urgency:
While we've temporarily moved services to the back of our Resale Store, this solution is far from ideal. Routine and consistency are essential for those we serve, and the disruption has deeply affected their daily lives. Returning to our fully restored facility is crucial to provide the structured, supportive environment our members depend on. The repair costs are extensive, and we can't do this alone—we need your help to rebuild and continue our mission.
How You Can Help:
- Donate: Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to reopening our doors.
- Share: Spread the word by sharing this campaign with your network.
Your Impact:
Every dollar will go directly toward restoring our facility, replacing lost equipment, and ensuring our vital programs can resume. Together, we can rebuild and ensure that Bergmann Center remains a sanctuary of support, growth, and opportunity for generations to come.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Keri Laporte-Montero (CEO) & the Bergmann Center Team
