The fourth time is the real charmer so I've heard... Trust me on that.
So this September, for the fourth consecutive year, I'm back on my BS and heavily questioning my sanity for a cause that means so much to me.
Jesus Peter Now what ...
How about a brisk 100-mile jog in the Iowa Countryside to help raise funds for a local Chicago charity, The Bear Necessities.
Whyyyyyyy though...
Simple. It's Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month - An opportunity to show support and raise awareness to anyone and everyone battling an unforgiving and ruthless disease.
Over the past few years, I've seen firsthand kids get the gut-wrenching diagnosis, the toll it takes on them, and the daily grind these families go through to offer all the support they can so their child can overcome it.
Witnessing all of these brings me back to why I started doing this in the first place: I believe every kid should have a chance at living up to their fullest potential unimpeded by physical inabilities, and whenever I hear or see someone taking this on, I can't help but question what else I can do to help.
Which brings us to this fundraiser.
You see, running has been my way of connecting my talents and personality to those individuals, families, and institutions delivering life-saving treatments, although I'll be the first to tell you that these ideas are born on the intersection of stupidity and impulsivity.
Whether it's been running 7 Marathons in 7 days to raise funds for the Lampstrong Foundation, running from Chicago to Michigan to raise money for the Carris family whose son, Adler, is battling inoperable brain cancer, or running 361 miles in September to raise money for Lurie Children's Hospital, running has been my outlet that has opened so many doors, friendships, and opportunities to give back.
If that was too spicy and me coming off like a hardo, lmk... BUT YOU GET THE POINT. I wouldn't do this shit if I wasn't passionate about it.
So staying true to my proclivity to put my body in the pain cave, I will be setting out to run my first 100 miler (yes, 100 straight miles) in Booneville, Iowa on September 4th, 2021 to help raise money for The Bear Necessitities , a charity focused on providing difference-making care and support to cancer patients and families in all the stages of cancer treatment and recovery.
Why Bear Necessities and why should you care?
There are so many great organizations focused on pediatric cancer, but this one hits home. The work that they've done in the Chicago-land community is unmatched in helping patients get access to all things big and small that put a smile on their face, and their goal is to spread their impact across the US, which I why I wanted to partner with them to make that dream a little more reachable.
So that it’s my people. I can’t thank you enough in advance for what’s to come. Any donation or support is so so appreciated.
Sometimes you're meant to do what you're not meant to do. I truly believe that.
Wishing you all nothing but health and happiness,
Peter
