A Balinese superhero for Bali!
Be the Hero and Inspire a Child
Luh Ayu is a modern 8th grade girl from Bali, Indonesia who transforms into environmental superhero, Luh Ayu Manik Mas, when danger strikes.
Luh Ayu seeks advice from kids through her own social media handles and then local authors and illustrators turn these dialogues into comic book adventures. Through this process, the community is involved as a co-producer, not just a consumer, of Luh Ayu adventures. Luh Ayu challenges kids to harness their own superhero strength to improve the world around them.
All books are written in Balinese, Indonesian, and English to celebrate local languages, identity and culture while also underscoring the importance of international understanding.
This newest adventure features Luh Ayu asking whether superheroes alone can combat the corona virus, or whether people need to change their behavior as well.
Give the joy of reading to a local child in need by donating just $10. If there is a children's organization in Bali you'd like us to request that we donate the books to, please do let us know. Donors of $100 or more will be sent their own copy of this latest adventure as well.
With just one $10 donation, you can support local writers and artists, encourage literacy, strengthen local languages, and encourage behavior to combat Covid.
Many thanks from the team at BASAbali
