Athletes for Hope

My name is Naomi Wegner and I am collaborating with Athletes for Hope to fundraise for mental health awareness within different athletic communities. My aim is to raise awareness about competitive athletes’ mental health. All the money raised through this fundraiser will be donated to the organization Athletes for Hope. Athletes For Hope promotes mental health through three main events. 1. They host events to educate athletes about mental health in many different sports and ages. 2. They host workshops for people of all ages to learn more about mental and physical health. 3. AFH hosts an equality program, and has teamed up with ESPN to promote gender equality with athletes. https://www.athletesforhope.org/


As a competitive athlete myself, I believe that mental health is very important. I have experienced and watched others in many sports experience issues involving mental health and I have learned just how serious these issues can be. These issues have become prominent over the past few months. For example, Naomi Osaka had to drop out of the French Open due to immense pressure along with depression. Following this, Simone Biles excused herself from the individual section of the 2021 Olympics due to similar reasons.
