Sports Industry Influencers is proud to announce the launch of our #CovidInColor fundraising campaign benefiting AIRnyc to support New York City communities most impacted by Covid-19. We are heartbroken over the devastation this unprecedented season has caused for the many individuals and the families that have been affected. This pandemic has not only hit close to home, but it has also undoubtedly underlined the clear racial breakdowns within our society from both a health and economic standpoint.
While not everything is within our control, we believe that we can make a difference by fundraising together to support the individuals and families at the frontlines. We are partnering with AIRnyc to actively serve New York neighborhoods with resources as health issues exacerbate in our communities.
Sadly, communities of color have been experiencing a vastly disproportionate impact from COVID-19. It has been reported that Black and Latino New Yorkers are dying at double the rate of other races.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
There have been structural inequities that have existed well before this current crisis - from underlying chronic health conditions associated with poverty to economic disparities linked to a long history of systemic disadvantages.
- Essential Workers (i.e. nurses, subway staff, sanitation workers, grocery cashiers, etc.) are most susceptible to being exposed at alarmingly higher rates.
- 79% of New York’s frontline are African American and Latino.
WHO ARE WE AND WHERE ARE WE FROM?
This campaign is led by Sports Industry Influencers, a networking community for minorities in the sports and entertainment business based in New York City. We aim to highlight and help support AIRnyc’s efforts around COVID-19 and beyond.
WHY FUNDRAISING FOR AIRNYC IS NECESSARY?
AIRnyc is dedicated to addressing the social drivers of health and fostering wellness at the household level of the city’s most vulnerable families. By donating today, your contribution will go directly to supporting communities of color with access to medical care, food programs, housing services, and legal assistance.
HOW MUCH OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO HELP PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY?
Your donation to the Sports Industry Influencers’ COVID in Color Fund will go directly to AIRnyc to support the needs of the communities most impacted by the pandemic.
