Genchi/Sabino Apartment Fire Fund
Funds are being collected to aid the victims of Sunday's apartment fire. Two families lost most of their possessions, including food and clothing items, when their apartment caught fire on Sunday, February 21, 2016. The two families are residing at a motel and have received some donations of clothing for the kids, but they lost all of their food in the fire and are hungry.
Assumption-Guadalupe Catholic Church and Blessed Family Street Ministry are working together to help these families. We are seeking financial support, so the families can replace their lost food, clothing, toiletry items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.) wash cloths, kitchen supplies (pots and pans, utensils, etc.), bedroom items (beds, sheets, night lights, etc.), along with the many other small items we all purchase over time and use, regularly.
100% of the funds and donated items collected will be given to the two families, equally. Financial contributions and donations of items can be mailed to or dropped of at Assumption-Guadalupe Catholic Church, located on the corner of 23rd and O St., and whose mailing address is 4930 S. 23rd St, Omaha, NE 68107. Receipts for donations will be available.
Thank you for helping us help our neighbors during this time of need.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An OFD official says 10 children and five adults escaped an apartment fire Sunday morning.
One man was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters called to the building near South 26th Street and Poppleton Avenue shortly before 11:30 a.m. found smoke billowing from the structure. "We sent crews up to the first and second floors because we had reports that fire and heavy smoke coming out of the attic area and up in the ventilation or vents so we found fire on the first floor in the walls, additionally on the second floor in the walls," said Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Matt Carmichael. "We were able to get it all knocked down."
He said the damage was fairly extensive because they had to open walls and ceiling space. "Because of the type of construction that this is the fire was able to travel up fairly quickly up in the walls and get to other levels of the house."
