Help Me Restore History 100 Miles for Congressional Cemetery
On October 15, I am taking on a major physical challenge for a cause deeply rooted in American history: riding 100 miles on my bike in a single day. My goal is to raise urgent funds for the monument conservation efforts at Washington D.C.’s Historic Congressional Cemetery.
As a National Historic Landmark, Congressional Cemetery is the final resting place for individuals who shaped our nation. However, decades of deferred maintenance prior to the cemetery’s modern revitalization have left a critical backlog of structural issues. Today, the cemetery faces a race against time to address unstable monuments across the grounds.
Where Your Donation Goes:The cemetery invests heavily each year into specialized conservation efforts to stabilize and repair endangered headstones. My campaign is directly supporting these active initiatives.
Your generosity will fund two critical phases of preservation, led by our conservator, Devlin McDonald of DMC Restoration:
- Immediate Stabilization: Direct intervention to repair and secure unstable memorials that are still standing before they fall and fracture.
- Rescuing Laid-Flat Stones: As we make progress stabilizing standing stones, the funds will allow the conservation team to lift, repair, and reset the many historic memorials that are currently laid flat on the ground solely for public safety reasons.
The Challenge:Riding a "century" (100 miles) requires months of grueling training, endurance, and grit. I am putting my legs and lungs to the test because these historic stones shouldn't be left to weather away.
