Please help us help the children!
We need your help in providing much-needed support for the foster children in our community. Statistics show that nearly 80% of prison inmates come from the foster care system due to the varying degrees of trauma, loss, abuse, and neglect they have suffered. Additionally, many children coming through the foster care system have special physical, mental health, and developmental needs. Please help us change the lives of these children by providing them with a positive, uplifting focus through ASA Now's new music program at Jacob's Mission to assist them in developing the life skills they need to succeed in this world.
You may already be aware of the physical health benefits music provides by reducing stress hormones, easing pain, and reducing blood pressure, but did you know that music can also have a profound effect on mental health and social disconnection? According to Psychology Today, music has perhaps the greatest potential among alternative therapies to change someone on a personal level and is also shown to have a profound effect on depression, anxiety, intellectual development, social functioning, and general well-being.
I feel so strongly about the healing power of music, that I have taken on the task of raising money and instruments for the new music/theater room at Jacob's Mission Community Center in Mesa. If you are like me and don't know much about foster kids or the community, know that a lot of kids that are in the foster system are there because of abuse. For kids that have suffered trauma the slightest sound, smell or interaction could trigger them, causing them to either shut down or have a breakdown. In a regular public class, the odds of anyone knowing what to do to help them are slim-to-none...they would just get stared at, shunned and discriminated against. The new center is opening soon, and we desperately need equipment to provide music classes to the children. Additionally, if you have any gently used musical instruments that you would like to donate, please contact us for drop off locations. We are especially in need of guitars, ukuleles, and keyboards.
Please join our team in making a difference in these children's lives by either donating or by sharing this fundraiser on social media. Every little bit helps us provide them with hope and healing to prevent the downward spiral so many of them face.
Also keep in mind that if you are an Arizona resident, you may be eligible to receive a dollar for dollar Arizona State Tax Credit for your donation. Receive up to a $500 tax credit for individuals, or $1,000 for married couples filing jointly.
If you feel inspired to join our team in raising funds and/or musical instruments, please contact me asap!
