America's Vet-Dogs

Hello all. Today, October 16, would have been Adam's 44th birthday.

In honor of Adam, we're raising money for a charity with a mission that was important to him. Prior to his passing, Adam's dog, Liam, was a major source of comfort and support. This should actually read "Liam's human, Adam," as that more accurately depicts their relationship. Adam and I had multiple conversations about having Liam registered as a service dog. Our hope is that - through this organization - more veterans find their Liam.

America's VetDogs' mission is to help those who have served our country honorably to live with dignity and independence, whether they are visually impaired or have other special needs, through the use of assistance dogs. America's VetDogs provides independence, mobility and companionship for veterans and military personnel of all eras - from World War II to those recently wounded in active conflicts abroad - who are visually impaired or have other disabilities, through the use of guide, service, facility, therapy and companion dogs.

The Dogist has partnered with GoFundMe on a fundraising campaign benefiting America’s VetDogs, raising money to help provide working service dogs to veterans. Over the last 10 years, Elias has photographed over 50,000 dogs, each of which have changed their person’s life. For American veterans, a service dog not only enables them to regain their sense of purpose and independence, but these dogs are very often the factor that saves these veteran’s lives from depression, PTSD, and dependence on pharmaceuticals. Elias Weiss Friedman has been working with America’s VetDogs through various projects over the last decade, and is excited to present this important next piece of their story.

A working service dog trained specifically for each veteran takes years and countless hours of training and investment, totalling over $50,000 per dog. America’s VetDogs provides these service dogs at no cost to veterans suffering from PTSD, depression, and mental and physical handicaps.

Titled “Thank You For Your Service,” this video and photo series created by Elias and shared with his 7.8 million followers will raise awareness for this critical cause. As a way to thank veterans for their service on Veterans Day, while also sharing how these veterans thank their dogs for the priceless service they provide them, Elias will visit three veterans and their dogs in their homes to discuss how valuable these working companions are to them.
