American Parkinson Disease Assoc

2 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Parkinsons, after experiencing symptoms that went mis/undiagnosed for several years prior. Her mobility was impacted in her foot, hand, face, and other areas of her body. Despite visits to many doctors and specialists in Canada (which has a 6-month waitlist for a neurologist), it wasn't until a trip to South Africa where she finally had a diagnosis from a hand specialist who identified the likely cause as Parkinsons. Since then, medication has substantially improved my mom's mobility, but years of treatment were lost due to lack of data, medication, and understanding of this disease.

 

My mom is the most giving, loving, kind, devoted human to all others. She's selfless, and acts without hesitation to do anything for anyone. Her devotion as a mother, and to her friends and community, sets an example for me and our family.  I'm proud to do something that can help her cause. Thank you, mom, for moving for others. This time, I move for you.

 

I've been training for 4 months to complete a Half Ironman triathlon. On September 12 I'll swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and run 13.1 miles. It's a scary distance. But I'll move knowing how lucky I am to have my health, and support of my mom, wife, family, and friends. Please help me raise funds for The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA), as I tackle this physical effort.

 

The APDA is the largest grassroots network dedicated to fighting Parkinson’s disease (PD) and works tirelessly to help the approximately one million with PD in the United States live life to the fullest in the face of this chronic, neurological disorder. Founded in 1961, APDA has raised and invested more than $207 million to provide outstanding patient services and educational programs, elevate public awareness about the disease, and support research designed to unlock the mysteries of PD and ultimately put an end to this disease.

It’s been a disruptive and strenuous time in history as the world grapples with the worst pandemic in a century, and the necessary response has meant isolation from loved ones and our social communities. Sadly, a friend of mine passed away during this time due to complications caused by Parkinson’s disease, and their experience has heightened my awareness of the need for increased research to help those suffering from this degenerative neurological disorder. I’ve decided to virtually run around New Hampshire to raise money for this worthy cause. I will be logging 600 miles between now and October - a run for those in need. Some of you may or may not know that my longtime girlfriend Jamie has been battling Parkinson's Disease for years. She has opted to undergo surgery for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) as a hopeful long term treatment. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), a surgical therapy for Parkinson's disease, can ease motor symptoms, decrease medication needs and improve quality of life. The surgery is set to take place on June 3rd.

As part of the surgical process Jamie will have to buzz her head for the operation and as a show of support and love I will be joining her. Hopefully you will join me in supporting her and all those suffering from this terrible disease by donating to this campaign. Any donation will help make an impact and all proceeds go directly to the American Parkinson Disease Association (ADPA).
