The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Concert Chi is an annual, artistic and cultural event to showcase Native American musicians in an attempt to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day officially in the City of Chicago. The concert brings together the Native American, Indigenous communities, and the general public in Chicago to celebrate a more inclusive holiday. The event includes history and knowledge between Native American’s, Columbus, and colonization with brochure handouts and the artists speaking about the importance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In future years, if Columbus Day is abolished we hope that this event will continue as a way to solidify artistic and cultural pride in Native American and Indigenous communities in Chicago for many generations. 


We launched the annual event for Indigenous Peoples’ Day last October at The Old Town School of Folk Music with headliner Frank Waln, and artists NuFolk Rebel Alliance and Opliam. We are looking to expand the event to include Buffy Saint Marie as the headlining artist for the October 14, 2020 concert at the same location in Chicago, and the team is also preparing to have the event on a live stream depending on circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic. 


Last year's success received press recognition from Northwestern, Chicago Reader, and the Daily Herald.
