As many of you know, our pantry has been a lifeline for thousands of families across Cook County, IL., providing fresh produce, healthy groceries, and dignity through choice-based food distribution. But today, we are facing a crisis that no one community organization can shoulder alone.
Due to the ongoing government shutdown and the recent cuts to SNAP benefits, more families are turning to us for support, and the cost to operate our emergency food program continues to rise. It takes $25,000 every month to keep Free N Deed Market open, staffed, and utilities paid, to offer the fresh, healthy options our community deserves.
While these federal decisions are beyond our control, the response is not.
