ALUMINUM CANS FOR BURNED CHILDREN OF NORTHEAST OHIO (ACBC)

Aluminum Cans for Burned Children has the incredible opportunity to move into a new headquarters in an old Fire Station located in Lakewood, Ohio. Sadly, a fire in 2025 did significant damage to the interior of the Fire Station. We are raising the funds to help complete the restoration of the Fire Station and not only make it the ACBC headquarters but also a safe space for our pediatric burn survivors to gather. We envision a space that our pediatric burn survivors will be able to utilize the computer stations to fill out college applications, grants, and scholarships, potential employment, and get whatever support they need.

In partnership with the Lakewood Professional Fire Fighters Historical Association we will be able to bring this Fire Station, built in 1926, back to its former glory and have it be safe haven for our burn survivors they deserve.

Our History

Established in 1986 by the Northern Ohio Fire Fighters, the Northeast Fire Chief’s Association, and MetroHealth Medical Center of Cleveland, the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Foundation (ACBC) aids children with severe burn injuries.

ACBC covers the cost of medical equipment, offers individualized support, and sponsors the free, four-day retreat, Camp Phoenix, for burn survivors aged 5 to 16 at Camp Cheerful in Strongsville, Ohio. This therapeutic camp encourages interaction among around fifty burned children, fostering coping and recovery.

ACBC also provides scholarships to pediatric patients from the Burn Center and promotes fire safety through Fire Safety Houses, 28-foot trailers operated by firefighters, reaching over 3,000 Northeast Ohio school children annually with essential fire safety education.

Our Mission

The mission of the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children of Northeast Ohio (ACBC) is to prevent burn injuries through fire education and to impact the physical and emotional rehabilitation of pediatric burn survivors.

We've been able to:

Educate over 3000 children in fire safety so they know how to be proactive and protect themselves

Bring 250+ young burn survivors to camp where they can be themselves and thrive

Recycle over 100,000 pounds of aluminum recycled per year to keep our earth clean
