ALS of Michigan, Inc.

This is my mom. The picture is three years old. It was taken after a 3mile run with my son. Until last May, she typically ran at least 10 miles each week.

She is now 68 years old. Has always been an avid runner and fitness enthusiast.  In March of 2019 she complained about some weakness in her left arm. 
In July, she was then diagnosed with ALS. By December she was in a wheelchair. Right now, she is not able to take care of herself and also lost her ability to move her body voluntarily. She can no longer speak. 

I had the last real conversation with her in November 2019. I have been traveling regularly to Germany to see her. The last time, I was able to make the trip was February. Right now, I can no longer visit her, because of COVID 19. It is unlikely that I will see her alive considering continuous travel restrictions to Europe. Or anywhere. 

I decided to dedicate the marathon I am running this year to her, but would also like to progress the research and support helping ALS impacted families. The cost to allow patients to stay within their home and with their families is immense. Any aid is costly. From home renovations to therapy. ALS can bankrupt families. And I would like to help where I can.
