"Want to join us in making a difference? SportsMedia Technology (SMT) is raising money to benefit ALS Association Greater Chicago Chapter in memory of Mike Rickey. Mike Rickey, along with his wife, Keri, served as volunteers on the ball position committee at the Masters from 2014-2019. Their dream was to continue volunteering for many more years to come. Unfortunately, on September 9, 2019, Mike was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and with the rapid decline in his health, they were no longer able to volunteer. Mike was also an avid golfer, and the first thing ALS took from him was his ability to golf due to weakness in his arms and legs.
Just two years and two months after receiving his diagnosis, Mike “won” his battle with ALS. On December 6, 2021, he passed away quietly at home in a place he loved with the people he loved. It may sound strange to say he "won his battle", but Mike never defined his battle by how long he lived. He defined winning as remaining true to his faith, true to his values, and true to his outlook on life. With those as his objectives, he won. He was an incredible man who always put others before himself. He was an inspiration not only to his family and friends but to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
