ALS Network

I am Nathan McDonald and I'm fundraising money and raising awareness for "ALS Network". All money contributed will be raised towards this foundation and for their mission. We will be contributing funds for a local hike in Layton, UT on October 5th, 2024 as well as fundraising through my sports card business (NathanRipsLLP).

ALS Network:

The ALS network is dedicated improving the lives of those affected by ALS through advocacy, comprehensive care, and research. They connect individuals with ALS to resources, support, and information.

Key Services and Programs of ALS Network:

Comprehensive Care: The ALS network provides multidisciplinary care at no cost to those affected. this helps patients manage symptoms and improve their quality of life

Research and Funding: The ALS network invests in research to find better quality treatments and a cure for ALS, they also connect patients to clinical trials.

Advocacy: The ALS network works to influence public policy and raise awareness about ALS. They organize campaigns and events to support those in the ALS community.

Support Groups: They offer connection groups where those with ALS and their lived ones can share experiences and strategies for maintaining independence.

Hi! My name is Michaela Sumortin and I am raising funds for the ALS Network in California. My grandma suffered from ALS which was a challenging journey for my family and me. We were very close throughout my childhood and before her illness, we enjoyed running and surfing together. She helped instill within me a love for the ocean and adventure.

In her memory, I will be training this year to swim across the Catalina Channel to raise awareness and funding for the disease.

As a third-year undergraduate student at UC Irvine pursuing a degree in Neurobiology, I proposed research regarding the pathophysiological cause of upper motor neuron death which is a symptom common to all known ALS cases. Although my proposed research remains theoretical, learning more about the current state of ALS research gave me hope that there may be a cure or more effective therapeutic measures one day.
