This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in making a big difference for the vulnerable cats in our care. At Alley Cat Rescue, we are dedicated to rescuing, healing, and rehoming cats in need, and we can't do it alone.

Our Mission: Our work with vulnerable sick cats and newborn kittens is crucial, as they rely on us for their survival. We need specialized equipment to isolate them, maintain their warmth, and administer treatments like oxygen and nebulization when necessary.

This equipment will enable us to create a safe, sanitary environment for their recovery.

We are currently caring for a litter of vulnerable kittens who need specialized medical attention, including access to oxygen and incubators, to help them thrive. These precious little ones are fighting for their lives, and your generous contributions will provide them with the vital resources they need to grow strong and healthy. MAIZIE - Late one Sunday, we were alerted to a very young mama cat who was stuck at a city shelter and had been in labor all day. She had given birth to four stillborn babies early in the morning and was still suffering. She needed to see a vet as soon as possible.

 

Maizie was rushed to an emergency vet and it was determined that there was one large kitten still in the birth canal. Sadly, the kitten had no heartbeat, The vet performed an emergency c-section as Maze would not have survived otherwise. She was also severely anemic as she lost a lot of blood with the placentas for each birth. She was in intensive care and is now being monitored closely. Unfortunately, she's suffered permanent nerve damage to her back legs.

 

 

OLIVE was found by our Los Angeles team with her ears mutilated and a back leg broken in two places. She needed her leg amputated but after recovery, she was pain free and adopted.

 

 

 

SIMONE (aka Cally) came to us with three nursing kittens and a severe viral infection. Her fever shot up to 105 and we rushed her to an emergency clinic. Simone stayed at the clinic for a week, receiving IV antibiotics, fluids, anti-nausesa medication, and many tests.

 

 

ASH's jaw was badly broken in a domestic violence situation, leaving him in terrible pain and unable to eat. He required a feeding tube, hospitalization, and three surgeries.

 

 

TEDDY was only a few days old when he developed pneumonia. He spent several days at the vet, requiring round-the-clock monitoring and care. He also required a feeding tube because he was so congested that he could not eat and breathe at the same time, and he was placed in an incubator.

 

 

ROO was born with both back legs wrapped around his body and badly deformed. ACR got him physical therapy, massages, and laser treatment, which fixed his legs. Though he eventually lost his right paw, ACR was able to give him complete mobility.

 

 

BUBBLEGUM was born 1/4 the size of his littermates. He's had multiple issues including a heart murmur, digestive trouble, and delayed growth. we have taken him to the veterinarian and multiple veterinary specialists many times throughout his development to try to determine what is wrong. Almost an adult now, he shows signs of weakness and has an enlarged spleen and lymph nodes, inflamed gums and teeth, and ACR continues to work with vets and specialists on his healing

Some cats need emergency treatment for a week, recover, and then find their forever home. Others require continued or follow up care for much longer. Our Urgent Mission: To Save Citrus and Her Leg

Meet Citrus, a brave feline whose life took an unexpected turn when her leg was shattered in a tragic car accident. The pain she endured was unimaginable, and she needed immediate, extensive medical care to survive.

We couldn't stand by and watch Citrus suffer. With a deep commitment to helping cats in need, we rushed to her aid, swiftly rescuing her from the shelter and taking her to a veterinary clinic.

Citrus required hospitalization for several days before the vet team could even perform surgery because her tissue was so inflamed. Then, she had surgery where a plate and screws were used to repair her leg. Citrus’ leg was wrapped tightly with a cast that needed changing weekly, and we kept her comfortable with heavy pain medication as she healed.

After two months, the only trace of the trauma she’d been through was a mildly outturned paw that caused her no trouble and after several months Citrus was adopted into a loving home.

Dewey's Journey: From Despair to Delight

Meet Dewey, a tiny warrior who faced unimaginable challenges on the streets. Alone, abandoned, and suffering, he was found with an eye infection so severe that it had caused his eye to rupture, leaving him in excruciating pain. Dewey's condition was dire; he was also battling a host of other health issues, including fleas, an upper respiratory infection, and severe emaciation.

Dewey's plight was a cry for help, and shelter staff urgently reached out for emergency rescue. The moment we learned about his condition, we knew we had to act swiftly to give him the chance at life and the critical care he so desperately needed.

Dewey's path to recovery was a long and challenging one. His eye had been so badly damaged that it had to be surgically removed. Additionally, after rescuing him, we discovered that both of his front paws were infected, causing his claws to fall out.

But with your support, we were able to provide Dewey with the comprehensive care he needed. He underwent treatments for all of his infections, and his damaged eye was removed to relieve his pain. Over time, Dewey transformed from a frail, suffering kitten into a picture of health. He regained a healthy weight, his claws grew back, and his soft, fluffy fur became a symbol of his resilience.

Flower Pot Kittens

In a quiet backyard, a feral mama cat hid her four-week-old kittens in a large planter pot, her instinct to keep them safe driving her every move. But the tranquility of the backyard was disrupted by the presence of large dogs, causing immense stress and posing a threat to her precious kittens. The homeowners, compassionate and concerned, reached out to Alley Cat Rescue for assistance.

We swiftly answered the call for help. The rescue team went into action, rescuing the tiny kittens from the potentially dangerous situation. Simultaneously, they managed to trap the protective mama cat, with the intention of ensuring the kittens could continue to receive her nurturing care.

The story took a somber turn when one of the four kittens, smaller and more fragile than the others, struggled to thrive. Despite the dedicated efforts of the mother cat and her caretakers, this brave little soul passed away, leaving a void in their hearts.

Noticing that the surviving kittens were not thriving as expected, we intervened. With bottle feeding and round-the-clock monitoring, we embarked on a journey to nurture and care for them. The mama cat, still feral and stressed by the unusual circumstances, was spayed and returned to her backyard home, where she felt most comfortable.

The story of the Flower Pot Kittens has been an emotional rollercoaster. Yet, it's a testament to the unwavering commitment of our team, the resilience of the mama cat, and the spirit of these kittens. With your support, they were stabilized and thrived, growing from vulnerable bottle babies into robust and lively kittens.

Dixie the Tiny Warrior

Meet Dixie, a brave soul who was found lying unconscious in the scorching heat of a 100-degree day. Her life hung in the balance as she suffered from severe heat stroke, but her journey to recovery had only just begun.

Upon arriving at the veterinarian's office, we uncovered more challenges than we could have ever imagined. Dixie's ordeal was not limited to heat stroke; she had also endured a broken pelvis, likely the result of a car accident. Her struggles with breathing led to further tests, which revealed a tear in her diaphragm.

With each new challenge, we were determined to help Dixie. She underwent life-saving emergency surgery to repair her diaphragm, and thanks to the dedication of our veterinary team, she could breathe normally once again. However, her path to recovery was a long and arduous one. She required daily monitoring and pain medication, which meant an extended hospital stay of over six weeks. This period was marked by round-the-clock care and unwavering commitment to her well-being.

August: Three Legs, No Problem

Meet August, a 2.5-month-old kitten who was rescued off the street, suffering from a severely broken back leg. His condition was dire, with the bone protruding through his skin, causing immense pain and fear. But the story of August is one of remarkable transformation and unwavering spirit.

With no way to save his injured leg, our dedicated veterinarians made the difficult yet life-changing decision to amputate it. The surgery was a moment of relief for little August, who felt immediate comfort once the source of his pain was removed.

August's spirit was unstoppable. Despite the amputation, it was a challenge to keep him from trying to run and play while he healed. His determination and joy for life were awe-inspiring.

After the stitches were removed, August wasted no time in rediscovering the world around him. Climbing, playing, and exploring, he embraced life as if nothing had happened. His resilience was a testament to the power of love, care, and second chances.

Little SKY had a tough start to life. He was rescued with a degloved chin and upper respiratory infection. During surgery to fix his chin, it was discovered he also had an inward deviation of the sternum called pectus excavatum, which caused him to have breathing issues while under anesthesia. After healing from his chin surgery and URI, Sky wanted to bounce around and play, but couldn’t because of his breathing trouble.

He underwent an intense, complicated surgery to treat his pectus excavatum. The recovery period involved six weeks of vet checkups and frequent bandage changes to clean the surgery site and plate attached to his chest.

LEMON suffered a severe leg injury and was clearly in pain and her wounds were at risk of becoming infected. ACR rushed her to an emergency vet clinic, where she was treated. Lemon was given pain medication and X-rays were taken of her leg. The X-rays revealed poor Lemon had been shot; her right tibia was shattered and metal and bone fragments were scattered within the surrounding tissue.

Lemon had a metal plate and seven screws surgically affixed to the bone to stabilize it. For three months afterward, she had X-rays done every two weeks to monitor the bone’s healing. She is doing well now, running and jumping on all four paws.

Orphans, COCONUT and MOCHA were found all alone, dirty and dehydrated. They were taken to the shelter and immediately put on the urgent list as shelters don’t have the resources to feed babies 24/7. ACR immediately jumped into action to help these babies as they have so many times. The babies doubled their weight in the first few days and are thriving under their expert care.

Alley Cat Rescue rescued CHEX from a shelter as an urgent medical case. We immediately rushed Chex to a veterinarian, and X-rays showed his leg is fractured in two places.

Chex gets his leg checked and splinted each week, and he is on pain medication and bed rest to allow for healing. He needs X-rays every two weeks to monitor the fracture. He has a couple of months of recovery ahead of him, but the important thing is that he is safe and getting the treatment he needs.

Chex is getting the love and attention he deserves at his foster home and the vet’s office.

FRITO was found outside of a business, drastically undersized for his age, with a cleft lip and falling over.

When ACR saw Frito, they knew that they had to help him. Due to his cleft lip, he was at high risk of aspiration pneumonia. Frito also had ongoing respiratory infections and needed several vet visits and medication to get him healthy.

Frito was also diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia, or "wobbly kitten syndrome," by a neurologist and had to see a dental specialist to help with his cleft lip and dental issues. Alley Cat Rescue helped this gorgeous kitty with all the vet care he needed to improve his life.

Frito has recovered from many of his ailments that could be fixed, and we found him a great home with someone who has had experience with special needs cats.

Every cat deserves someone who cares about them and will help them—ACR is fortunate to be able to do this with your support. We can provide the care, the transport to the clinic, and the food, but in order to continue with this life-saving work, we need partners - people who care about putting an end to the suffering!

Frito was born looking a little different.

He is a drastically undersized kitten with a cleft lip who was found outside of a business. Frito's a spunky little guy who loves life, and ACR is committed to helping him thrive.

Frito was doing very well, until he wasn't. He ended up with aspiration pneumonia and needed antibiotics, but then did really well and thrived. He may be tiny, but he is mighty.

However, Frito’s struggles did not end there. He has tremors and falls over a lot. We took him to the vet and he has been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia, or wobbly kitten syndrome.

In order to live happily and pain-free, Frito will probably need several surgeries. His cleft must be fixed to keep him from becoming congested and possibly aspirating; he’s already had two rounds of antibiotics. He will also need his bottom canines removed to prevent them from cutting into the roof of his mouth due to his misaligned jaw. Then this surgery needs to be repeated once his adult teeth come in.

With medical intervention, we see a lot more playing, cuddling, and joy in Frito’s future!

Last week, we received an urgent request from a shelter for the emergency rescue of Lemon, who had been brought in with a severe leg injury. She was in pain and at risk of infection, and needed immediate veterinary care.

We took Lemon to an emergency vet clinic, where she was treated with pain medication and they took X-rays. The X-rays revealed poor little Lemon had been shot; her rear right tibia is shattered, with metal and bone fragments scattered through the soft tissue. The next stop for Lemon was an orthopedic specialist who assessed the damage and made a plan for surgery to save her leg.

Lemon was hospitalized for the weekend and is getting surgery today. She was kept quiet and on pain medication to keep her comfortable and antibiotics to prevent infection. After her surgery, she will go into foster care to recover.

Lemon is an absolute sweetie who is affectionate with all the humans helping her, despite the pain and trauma she just experienced. We wish she did not have to go through this. At least we can promise her the very best of care and love that will help her heal physically and emotionally.

This year, Alley Cat Rescue has rescued and rehabilitated what may be a record number of kittens—and the year isn’t even over!
