Help Alfresco with Air Conditioning
Dear Friends,
Thank you to all who made it out to see our recent productions of “The Andrews
Brothers” and “All Shook Up!” After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
it’s good to be back providing live theatre in the community. The feedback we have
received about the productions has been very kind and generous. This is a new chapter
in what we hope is a very long and fruitful relationship between Alfresco and the greater
Granite City area and region for decades to come.
To prepare for this new chapter, we have made several improvements and repairs to
the arts center. As you may know, during the two years of the aforementioned closure,
the Alfresco Arts Center was vandalized, including defacing of property, damage to
walls and floors, stolen tools, stolen props and costumes, stolen supplies, and damaged
electronics. Additionally, the bathrooms and plumbing were damaged by trespassers
using the facility as shelter. Because the center had been closed, the water had been
shut off during the center’s closure, but the bathroom facilities were still being used and
abused for months before discovering the center had been broken into. However,
through the generosity of some amazing sponsors and supporters, we were able to
restore most of the building and facility to the way we thought it was before the forced
COVID closures. Unfortunately, during the rehearsals for “All Shook Up!” we realized
the restoration wasn’t complete. We discovered 3 of the 7 air conditioning units that
keep the arts center cool for our patrons had been completely gutted and destroyed for
parts. If you visited us during the “All Shook Up!” production, you know just how
impactful this damage was and how important restoring these units will be for future
productions. It is estimated to cost $25,000 to get these units in working order to cool off the arts center.
The cost to repair this damage is a burden proving difficult for a non-profit organization like The Alfresco Arts Center.
Ticket sales this season have been used to pay for the production costs (royalties,
music, materials, costumes, props, etc.) of each show and the small portion that
remains covers monthly utility costs for the building. While the Board strongly desires to
have Alfresco running as a self-sufficient organization that can run off the proceeds from
ticket sales and building rentals, Alfresco is not yet there. The Board would like to
repair or replace the damaged AC units as soon as financially feasible. Plans for the
next year are already underway and while we aren’t able to divulge details at this point,
we are hoping to expand our offerings next year, including at least one more youth
production each year. In order to achieve these goals and in a timely manner, we need
the help and support of our community of patrons, supporters, and sponsors.
From now through August 4th, we are running a fundraising campaign to help restore
the Alfresco Arts Center air conditioning units so it can continue to be an arts haven in
the community for future generations. The Board has chosen reward levels for anyone
who donates. These are as follows:
$1-$49 – Name listed on donors’ page on our website and in our programs.
$50-$124 – Name listed on Alfresco Art Center lobby wall plaque and on donors’ page
on our website and in our programs.
$125-$249 – Name listed on one of the “new” theatre seats being installed in the
Alfresco Art Center and on donors’ page on our website and in our programs.
$250+ - Named listed as VIP Sponsor with recognition in the lobby, a special VIP
plaque located in the theatre VIP section, and on donors’ page on our website and in
our programs.
In addition, any donations of $50 or more will be recognized with a special
announcement of our upcoming season prior to any public announcement and a special
discount code for season tickets.
We realize that times are tough, but any amount that you can contribute will ensure that
the performing arts remain an active part of our community for the citizens and children
in the area today and in the future. Thank you for your support!
