Agape Wilderness Retreat Building
Agape’ Christian Ministries is a tax exempt nonprofit organization that operates Agape Wilderness Retreat Center, a Christian retreat center found in the hills of Trimble County, Kentucky on 81 acres of wooded hills. We’ve been ministering to area churches and faith based groups for the last nine years. Now is the time to expand our ministry so we can help more faith based groups through retreat ministries. You can help us with this mission. We’ve started our building project but to complete this program additional funding is needed. To build 5 cabins with room for 80 additional guests, we’ll need at least $100,000. Additionally, we plan to build a meeting hall as well. Please prayerfully consider helping us reach this goal.
We find our inspiration for retreat ministries in the story of Elijah found in I Kings 19. Elijah has just defeated the prophets of Baal when he’s threatened by Jezebel. The story shows many of the important benefits of a time away:
I. Retreat (I Kings 19:4) – “But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree…” Agape’ Wilderness Retreat Center is nestled in the wilderness of Trimble Co., KY on 81 acres of wooded hills. Over three miles of trails transverse the hills, amble along streams and through the woods. We’re minutes away but worlds apart.
II. Rest (I Kings 19:9) – “Then he came there to a cave and lodged there:…” Our comfortable lodge includes 6 rooms with sleeping for 27. Plans include cabins for as many as 80 more.
III. Refuel (I Kings 19:6) – “Then he looked and behold; there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again.” While Elijah refueled on bread and water, Agape’ has stepped up to refueling our guests on delicious and plentiful gourmet meals. He won’t go away hungry from one of our retreats.
IV. Reflect (I Kings 19:10) – “…I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts,…” There’s nothing like a little time away from the busy-ness of the world in the slow pace of the wilderness. Here there is peace, quiet, and time to reflect on your relationship with God and with others.
V. Refocus (I Kings 19:11) – “So He said, ‘Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold the Lord was passing by!” A prayer journey through our prayer labyrinth is just the place to hear the message God is sending you. Elijah found his message in a gentle breeze. Walk the labyrinth, feel the breeze and listen to God.
VI. Re-enter (I Kings 19:15) – “The Lord said to him, ‘Go back the way you came to the desert of Damascus…’” The most important part of any retreat ministry is preparing people to re-enter the world. We are called to be in the world but not of the world. We aren’t supposed to stay secluded in the wilderness. We’re called to make a difference in the world in which we live and win disciples for Jesus Christ.
