Help The Kilimanjaro Project keep the lights on!
A Retrospective: The Kilimanjaro Project
August 2024 marks the seventh year anniversary of
The Kilimanjaro Project. Many see the final year in a seven year cycle as an opportunity for reflection, transformation, and sometimes even a sabbatical. (and boy do I need one of those!)
Over the coming weeks, I will take you all on a reflective retrospective journey, to when the seed for The Kilimanjaro Project was first sown. We have grown (over 300,000 trees), our roots extending deep into the soil and our canopy stretching high into the sky. We've weathered storms, some have tried to uproot us, but we have remained rooted in our purpose. Many of you have cheered us along the way.
We'll be sharing deep and joyful conversations with collaborating partners who were with us at the very beginning, redemptive discussions, and heartfelt laughter about the craziness—did we really think we were going to wrap Kilimanjaro with Khanga fabric?
But before we revisit our beginnings, I'd like to share a reflection on where we are today:
We are facing an epic funding gap—a harsh and humbling reality. I have not made payroll in three months, but my team stands by me. We are at the end of a long, dark tunnel, and today, on my birthday, and during this upcoming month of retrospection, I'm asking for your help so that we can step into the light.
We need to raise a minimum of $30,000 (hopefully more) to keep the lights on so that we can continue in service of the planet and her people.
We are at the negotiations table with major investors in our carbon project, and I have fundraisers on board in both the United States and Europe. And although I've never felt more supported and hopeful, we urgently need funding in these upcoming months to bridge the gap.
To my friends, family, and fellow forest lovers, your contribution will ensure that we can continue to grow trees, restore landscapes and transform the lives of the communities we serve.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
With gratitude,
and in service

PS. Our fundraiser is organised through the African Rainforest Conservancy in NYC. They are a 501c3 charity who we have partnered with to manage all our online donations, especially those coming from the United States.
