Your support will facilitate travel by Dr. Waymon and a documentary film crew.
Under the direction of Producer Melvin H. Cox and Director of Photography Jeff Chambers, the team will capture essential sounds and images emanating from this major international festival of music, theatre, film, painting, sculpture, multimedia and the culinary arts.
Dr. Waymon will tour festival venues, participate in social activities, meet with CARIFESTA youth delegates (ages 16 to 19) and be honored as an internationally celebrated elder statesman during the festival’s Closing Ceremony at the Richard Stoute Amphitheatre in the National Botanical Gardens on August 31st.
A native of Tryon, North Carolina (USA), Dr. Samuel Waymon is the youngest of eight children born to Rev. Mary Kate (Irvin) Waymon (1901 – 2001) and her husband, John Divine Waymon (1898 – 1972).
Samuel began playing the piano at age three under the direction of Mrs. Muriel Mazzanovich (lovingly known as ‘Miss Mazzy’) who also trained his late sister, Eunice (Nina Simone).
Waymon’s long career has brought success in many areas of the music and entertainment industries.
