You can make a difference by donating today to the Jonathan Green Maritime Cultural Center at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. This is the first institution in the world dedicated solely to African maritime art, history, and culture. Despite Africa’s long and rich coastal traditions, no museum has ever focused entirely on the maritime lifeways, economies, and artistry of African and African-descended communities—until now.

We are currently raising funds to support Phase One: the development of an interactive digital presence and the establishment of the Richard D. Weedman African Maritime Research Library. These foundational components will make global access to African maritime knowledge possible while laying the groundwork for a future physical site.
