I am a pediatric palliative care and complex care physician in North Carolina. I may be biased, but I work with the best group of patients ever. I am heartbroken for those in Western North Carolina. I am raising hurricane relief funds for Advocates of Medically Fragile Children of North Carolina.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, many families of children with medical complexity in Western North Carolina are facing significant challenges in accessing essential medical supplies and equipment. These children rely on specialized devices, from feeding tubes to respiratory support, which are crucial for their health and well-being. Unfortunately, the storm has disrupted supply chains and left many families without the resources they desperately need. Fundraising efforts are urgently needed to provide financial assistance, ensuring these vulnerable families can access life-saving equipment and supplies to continue caring for their children at home.

Even under normal circumstances, families of children with medical complexity in Western North Carolina face tremendous challenges in navigating the healthcare system to access the vital medical supplies and equipment their children need. The complexities of insurance coverage, long wait times, and limited local resources already make it difficult for these families to get the support they require. Now, in the wake of Hurricane Helene, these families are facing unimaginable circumstances, with supply shortages and infrastructure damage making an already arduous process nearly impossible. Fundraising is essential to help bridge the gap and provide immediate relief to families who are struggling to meet their children’s urgent medical needs.
