Support Adamant Community Club's Mold Remediation
The Adamant Community Club, a former one-room schoolhouse built in the 1890s, has been a community resource in the tiny hamlet of Adamant since the 1960s. It is currently used for concerts, parties, meetings, and other community events. Over the past twelve years there have been significant improvements to the space: insulation, a new roof and front steps, electrical rewiring, fresh paint both outside and in, and a ramp. Unfortunately, some people still cannot attend events in the building because of mold sensitivity.
We are remediating the mold problem with a four-step process, and the first three have already been completed: removal of homasote walls from the cellar’s utilities room; installation of a powerful dehumidifier in the cellar; and anti-fungal treatment of the main gathering space. What is left, and what is most costly ($7000), is treatment of the cellar. We have been working with Green Home Solutions of East Montpelier, Vermont, and according to them, the job will entail a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) vacuuming of all surfaces, application of oxygen-based pre-treatment to existing surfaces, removal of airborne mold spores; and finally, treatment of all surfaces in the basement with disinfectant fungicidal cleaner.
Over the past fifteen years, the Adamant Community Club has received funding from private donors, a Kickstarter campaign, an IndieGoGo campaign, and grants from the Preservation Trust of Vermont, the Vermont Arts Council, and the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation. Now we are turning to the community again to help us complete this important project that will make the Adamant Community Club indeed open to all.
