Able Flight

It's an amazing story. Already, nearly 100 people with physical disabilities have become licensed pilots thanks to receiving an Able Flight Scholarship . So, how do we make this one-of-a-kind nonprofit even more successful?

By expanding the program to offer even more opportunities for more people. To do that, we need more specially-adapted training aircraft, and that's how you can help today!

For 16 years, Able Flight pilots who use wheelchairs and veterans wounded in combat have trained in adapted Light Sport Aircraft, all made overseas. With the help of very dedicated people at Purdue University we have made it work, but now with long waits for parts or even facing the issue that parts are no longer available, we know there's a better answer, and that's to use a specially-adapted training plane made here in the United States. Enter the Vashon Ranger manufactured in Washington State.

Able Flight is raising funds to purchase two Rangers so that we can expand our program to a second university in 2024. Final arrangements are well underway for that new partnership, and we are looking forward to announcing that location early in 2024.

And here is some great news, with support from our sponsors and friends, we have already fully funded the purchase of one of those planes! And we are doing so without using any scholarship funds. In fact, we are also working to increase support of our scholarship fund as well.

So, today we ask for your help with a donation of any amount to support the purchase of the second Vashon Ranger. We know this is a big ask, but we can make this happen with your help. With your donation, you will provide the one tool every student pilot needs, an airplane. In this case, a specially-adapted plane that allows people without the use of their legs and feet to learn to fly and to earn their pilot's license.
