Rebuilding Lives in Jamaica
My name is May Al-Barzinji, co-founder of A Life Inspired (A.L.I.), a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our team has been serving communities in Jamaica long before Hurricane Melissa, but today the need is greater than anything we have ever witnessed.
This GoFundMe is being carried out through our nonprofit to directly support families and individuals affected by the storm. It has now been one month since Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica, and many families are still living in conditions that are difficult to imagine. While the news cycle has moved on, the reality on the ground has not. Homes remain stripped to the frames, entire rooms exposed to the sky, and families are sleeping on floors, on whatever furniture is left, or in crowded shelters with no clear timeline for recovery.
Our team has been in the affected communities every single day since the storm—lifting fallen walls, helping people save what belongings they can, providing meals, and supporting those who simply cannot rebuild alone. We’ve met children who still jump at the sound of heavy winds, elders who haven’t slept through the night since the storm, and families carrying the emotional weight of losing everything in a single day.
This fundraiser is not just about “relief.”
It’s about rebuilding lives with dignity and providing emotional support for those traumatized by the disaster.
Your support will help us provide:
- Materials to rebuild homes, piece by piece
- Temporary housing for displaced families
- Food and clean drinking water
- Essential household items such as mattresses, stoves, and clothing
- Support for the elderly, children, and disabled individuals
- Emotional support and community healing for those recovering from trauma
- Community-level repairs to restore safe spaces
Even though a month has passed, recovery has only just begun. With your help, we can bring stability, safety, and hope back to families whose lives were changed forever by the storm.
Thank you for standing with Jamaica during one of its hardest moments.
