Help Lisa Smith save her rescue!
My name is Lisa Bruce and I want to introduce you to an amazing woman named Lisa Smith. She started A Good Dog Rescue about 18 years ago because of her love and dedication to stray and suffering dogs. This past year she and her rescue have faced unsurmountable challenges. Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit A Good Dog Rescue and Lisa to pick up the pieces of her broken life and the life of this amazing rescue.
This is Lisa's plea:
2023 Started on a bad note. With close to 50 dogs in our rescue I found out my husband, partner of 33 years was living a double life with his coworker at a local newspaper and having one child after another. Anyone that knows me and my girls would know that we are all heart. Our hearts broke instantly and are still in tiny pieces on the ground. I was undergoing radiation for breast cancer spread after my chemo didn't work. The affair started one month after I started this rescue.
Although I don't regret saving the lives of over 5,000 dogs and cats, I couldn't help but wonder why God would punish my family as my girls are such a big part of this rescue and all of those dogs lives. Many of those dogs lived in our daycare and in our home. The ones that came home were the pregnant moms, sick dogs, unwanted and ignored dogs, black pits, only pet dogs, abandoned puppies and my favorite, the seniors and disabled dogs.
My husband is gone, leaving me to pick up the pieces of our broken family alone without income. As soon as I found out he was cheating I stopped the intake of animals to focus on the dogs I was responsible for. I close my dog daycare end of July due to a noise complaint from a neighbor. After stopping radiation early I didn't have the fight to save my daycare business of 18 years. My divorce has been stalled and I have no support but my girls and I are strong and will do what we can to survive. We have 6 dogs left in our rescue and once they find homes we will work on a responsible foster based rescue to save more lives.
While I am responsible for 6 dogs in our care the medical bills are piling up. Peaches was diagnosed this year with heartworm and a heart mass. We took her to Guardian to see a cardiologist who did not agree on the mass. We are so grateful for that but the second opinion will cost us $899.02. Today Peaches had her first heartworm treatment which cost us $426.09. Poor Adelaine, sweet as pie went for her heartworm test yesterday. Shes still positive even after being treated last December. Adelaine will need Xrays to diagnose her coughing and check on her heartworms a little further. Sasha our German Shepherd mama was just spayed and almost bled out. Thank goodness for some great veterinarians and staff that nursed her thru it. Swayze just finished his heartworm treatment and Mama had her cancerous tumor removed and is on watch for more.
I cannot do this alone. I am fighting for my girls, to keep my home and their life as normal as possible after this tremendous betrayal. I am giving up my business but I will continue to fight for rescue dogs and must focus on the ones in our care.
If you can help us we are in great need.
Any donation will help make an impact regardless of how big or small. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
