Paulina, one of our adolescents from ABH was kidnapped 8 months ago by a pimp who raped and tortured her. After endlessly searching for her, we found her. Sadly she had contracted an STI that doctors were unable to diagnose and she was also pregnant. A couple of days ago the disease that she contracted from her rapist began attacking her heart and she had to be admitted to the ICU.
Her mother, 60 years old, did everything she could to save her daughter and soon to be granddaughter. Despite her extreme poverty, she sold the only things she owned to pay for the medical procedures. She sold her bed, all her furniture, her blankets and a couple of pots. She works as a bus driver but only makes $7 a day- a can of baby formula is $8.
Despite all the doctors efforts last Friday, Paulina died during childbirth. Her beautiful baby was born and is healthy. The grandmother has been struggling tremendously. She has been sleeping on the floor and has no funds to feed the baby, while at the same time grieving the death of her daughter.
We are asking our network to pitch in any contribution to provide the grandmother a salary, shelter and medical care for the course of two years. In addition, the baby will be enrolled in our school where he will receive nutrition, medical care, and psychotherapeutic services as needed.
As a team, we are working very hard to provide the psychotherapeutic services and immediate needs to ensure Paulina's mother and child can heal. The staff in Bolivia are taking turns caring for the baby and scrambling to make ends meet so your support is immeasurable.
And for this baby Genesis, your contribution will ensure she is surrounded by team of professionals and the warmth and care of grandmother for the most critical time of her life.
