Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit 22Q Texas, Inc., and any donation will help make an impact. More specifically we are fundraising for this year's 22Q at the Zoo event in May and the 22q Annual Camp event in November. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me, Michael, and Van.
What are these events? Both the 22q at the Zoo and 22q Annual Camp gather families that have a parent or child that has been diagnosed with 22q 11.2 deletion syndrome or 22q 11.2 duplication syndrome (our 22quties). These events allow families to meet others who understand the day-to-day life with a 22qutie. It also educates the parents and allows the kids to hang out and have fun with other kids that are like them and understand them. However, these events are not free and many families have extensive medical bills along with the cost of everyday living. This often makes it difficult for them to pay the cost to attend these important and needed events. This is where you come in. Your donation will go towards the costs for parents and kids to attend the events, including the cost of the venue, food, and materials needed for the events.
Why this is important to us? In Spring of 2017 our son, Van, was diagnosed with the genetic disorder 22q 11.2 deletion syndrome (he was 8 yrs old). This completely rocked our world! We immediately started researching and found the 22q Texas group on Facebook and joined the community. That Fall we went to our first 22q Annual Camp. We met families that we are still in touch with, we learned so much more that weekend than we could have ever imagined, and we shed many tears talking to people who understood what we were feeling and going through. The following Spring we went to our first 22q at the Zoo and met more families. Van has had 3 surgeries since he was 5 mths old, many different scans, tests and bloodwork, numerous doctors and appointments, lots of different types of therapy sessions, and has been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety. With all of his challenges, he is still sweet, loving, extremely intelligent, and just has fun in life. We want other families to be able to have the experiences we have had at these two events. It truly makes a difference to each and every family!
