100 Black Men of the Bay Area Inc

Here is the problem:
We need protect our homeless residence and the at  risk youth in Alameda county. As communities have been ask to shelter in place these communities need our help, please give.



The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, in concert with our Faith Based Partners from Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, Acts Full Gospel Church and The Community Church are collecting donations for our #100Cares initiative targeted at specific African American homeless encampments, and youth in crisis to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities in which we will be providing food and sanitation supplies.

How can you help
Any monetary donation towards this effort is truly appreciated, chip in $25, $50,$100 or whatever you can afford, additionally should you opt to donate sanitary items such as hand sanitizer, rubber gloves, face masks, trash bags, toiletry items (soap, mouthwash, toothbrushes, shampoo) or any other cleaning products the drop off locations are listed below.

Can you imagine being kicked out of your home because you were just a little short on rent?  Hardworking families across the Bay Area are losing their jobs due to COVID-19, and we intend to do something about it.

We are raising money to save 10 families from becoming homeless due to being short on rent.  

California is providing up to $2,400 a month in unemployment, but it is not enough.  The average monthly cost of living in the Bay Area is ~$9,600 (see here), and the average Bay Area family is short ~$1,000 on their average rent of $3,000 before they begin the path to eviction and homelessness. 

The Bay Area Rent Scholarship is a program aimed at lowering the risk of homelessness caused by rent delinquency in the Bay Area. The Black community represents 10% of the population in Alameda County alone, but ~50% of the homeless population. 

Additionally, Covid related unemployment has more significantly impacted the Black community vs others (16.8% vs 13.3% average).  Given the main drivers of homelessness are unemployment and the inability to pay full rent, if we can directly address housing instability, we can significantly impact the risk of homelessness within the Black community.
