Mental illness – it’s that invisible barrier that prevents so many in our community from reaching their full potential.
But a group of amateur bike riders from The Junction Clubhouse are not letting this stop them competing in the grueling 780km Cairns to Karumba Ultra Marathon in June 2017: welcome to the CHANGING LIVES PROJECT!
Stephen has bipolar disorder and has struggled with severe depression and suicidal thoughts, an inability to work and failed relationships. He’s taking on the C2K challenge to raise funds for Bush Kids, test his own endurance levels, and encourage others who have a mental health condition.
Esther had a troubled childhood and after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her late 20s, spiraled into alcohol abuse, delusions and suicidal thoughts before ending up in mental health units. Her dream is to get rid of her demons by challenging herself to complete the C2K bike ride, with the great support that The Junction gives her.
The Changing Lives Project will highlight the determination and courage of people with Mental Illness, while raising money for Bush Kids through the C2K Bike Ride. Life is tough in the bush; this annual week-long ultra-marathon raises much-needed funds to benefit kids living in remote areas of Far North Queensland. To date, C2K has raised and distributed $1.14 million and The Junction members are excited to be part of such a worthy cause.
However, to participate in this marathon we need to purchase equipment such as bikes, clothing, camping equipment (tents for overnight etc).
How much do we need to raise? $50,000… and we can do it!
Please, donate generously…. You are not only helping local people overcome mental illness but you’re supporting children in remote areas of Queensland.
