Chameleon Arts Launch

Our Mission:

Chameleon Arts is a Kansas City-based non-profit committed to enhancing the voices and projects of poets, providing an avenue for collaboration, growing community within Kansas City poetry, and increasing accessibility for local poets to be elevated to regional and national stages.

Everyone, we are so excited to announce Samantha Slupski and Caitlin Daily have taken the positions of co-directors with Chameleon Arts, a Kansas City-based non-profit dedicated to focusing on community development through poetry.  Chameleon is dedicated to developing this organization to support all of Kansas City's poetry needs. Under Chameleon Arts, we will help fund and support many of the AMAZING poetry events and organizations that are housed in our hometown. We know that poetry saves lives, and through supporting organizations such as Poetic Underground, Kansas City Poetry Slam, Fountainverse, Chameleon Press, and Middle of the Mic Workshops, we believe we can make a difference!

The successful launch of this new arts non-profit gratefully depends on our stellar staff and board. Thank you to Zophia McDougal, Darrien Case, Taylor Gwin, and Josh Cooper for your help with Chameleon, and we are so excited to work with everyone. Very special thanks for the love, mentorship and support of Jeanette Powers and Hugh Merrill, who honored us by their confidence in taking over this 70+ year strong KC arts organization. We are so thankful to be given this opportunity, and we are so blown away that they saw us as the next directors for this beautiful organization.

Chameleon Arts is so much more than the folks behind the scenes, though. It’s all about the community we serve and that community includes you. Whether you are an artist in need of support or a generous benefactor who appreciates the need for poetry in the lives of our community, you are part of Chameleon, too.

We are excited to announce our first “friend-raiser”! We need funds in order to host workshops and national poets, to take KC poets to national and regional poetry stages, to continue the annual Small Press Poetry Fest, to make books for local poets and to connect. If you donate to Chameleon during January of 2018, the first month of our launch, you will have a spot on our website as a Founding Supporter! Even a small contribution adds up and makes a big difference. Our goal for this launch is $1000!

Here’s to a year of being heard! We can’t wait to connect.
