Challenge to Save Arts Education

Tax deductible
Help us "Save Arts Education" for at-risk children
Since 2002, arts education has been at the core of RiverCenter's mission. However, national funding cuts have reduced grant opportunities to sustain this important programming for at-risk youth — children who otherwise might never experience the magic of the arts. That's why we need your help to preserve RiverCenter's arts integrated education for children.

Synovus, the bank of here, has issued a challenge to make your donations go twice as far.

Through June 30, Synovus will match your gift dollar-for-dollar (up to $10,000) to help sustain RiverCenter's arts education program.

This means with matching funds from Synovus, your gift of...

$15=$30
and will provide transportation and admission for three students to attend an arts education program this season.

$50=$100
and will provide transportation and admission for 10 students to attend an arts education program this season.

$125=$250
and will cover transportation expenses and admission to an arts education program this season for 25 students.

$250=$500
and will cover transportation expenses and admission to an arts education program this season for 50 students.

$500=$1,000
and will cover transportation expenses and admission to an arts education program this season for 100 students.

Why Support Arts Education?

Arts improve academic performance.
Students engaged in arts learning have higher GPAs and standardized test scores, and lower drop-out rates. 88 percent of Americans believe that arts are part of a well-rounded K-12 education, and the Department of Education reports that access to arts education for students of color is significantly lower than for their white peers, and has declined for three decades. Yet, research shows that low socio-economic-status students have even greater increases in academic performance, college-going rates, college grades, and holding jobs with a future.

Arts improve individual well-being and unify communities.  . Over 70 percent say the arts are a “positive experience in a troubled world" and 62 percent agree that the arts help them "understand other cultures better”—a perspective observed across all demographic and economic categories.

Arts strengthen the economy. The arts and culture sector is a $730 billion industry, which represents 4.2 percent of the nation’s GDP—a larger share of the economy than transportation, tourism, and agriculture (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis).
