The TLC Junior Development Team is a competitive cycling/triathlon team, made up of students age 10-23, competing in all cycling and triathlon disciplines. Our mission is to utilize cycling and muti-sports as a unique educational tool to develop young athletes intellectually, physically, and socially. These activities support their individual development and growth as positive contributing members of the community.
The team is growing, not just in numbers, but in racing ability. Two years ago we started on our present path with 7 team members. We are now 22 members strong. We have a committed group, training 5-6 times a week, and advancing up the competitive ladder quickly.
We won countless NM state races in 2015. A 15 year old won the Category 4 Tour of the Gila Stage Race (against adults). Racers placed 10th and 7th at USA Cycling Junior Road Nationals and placed 5th at USA Cycling Cyclocross Nationals.
This year the team would like to travel more and compete in larger races. The goal is to win Junior Nationals in any of the disciplines we race in.
Competitive racing takes time and money. Rather than having student athletes thinking about how they will pay to get to these events, while training and studying, (we would like take one thing of their plate) by using this site to raise money to help them.
The goal is to raise $15,000 by April 2016. The money will help pay for bikes, uniforms, entry fees, travel, lodging, and food for the spring/summer race season.
I have been coaching junior endurance athletes since 1998. Over the years I have coached hundreds of endurance athletes. The goal has always been to teach lifelong fitness to help assure they receive a well, rounded education.
The present group of athletes has trained harder, been more consistent, kept up their grades at school, stayed focused more than a and dedication (for their chosen sport) inspires me every day. I am continually thankful to be able to be on this ride with them and hope you will join us.
I hope to see one or more of these amazing kids achieve their goals and for every amount, large or small, you are contribute helps them fulfill on this amazing journey.
