Service Scrimmage for Puerto Rico

Donation protected
Chester Charter School for the Arts is kicking off our varsity basketball season with our First Annual Service Scrimmage vs. Strath Haven High School on December 1, 2017.

This fundraising event's focus is to raise money for Hurricane Maria relief on the island of Puerto Rico. CCSA High School's community service club is hosting the event and are seeking from the community monetary donations which will go directly to the people who need the most help on the island.

Our fundraiser is raising money for two different, but very important charities doing amazing work for the people of Puerto Rico. Both charities are on the ground, working day to day with the people who need the most help. We want any money raised to go right to the people who need it most.

Charity 1: ViequesLove
This group was originally formed in order to provide long-term recovery funding for the Island, but because there has been an exremely limited government response in Vieques, ViequesLove has stepped in to fill the relief void. We are now servicing the full-scope of relief needs for Vieques until full-scale government aid can arrive.

Working under the COREFI umbrella, a 501c3 organization based out of Puerto Rico, the group maintaining this fund has launched Operation 18 Degrees North, a relief effort designed to:

- Get immediate communication supplies and satellite phones to key emergency relief personnel, the hospital, and the hurricane shelters.
- Purchase and deploy critical life saving supplies to the island of Vieques.
- Provide fast relief to the island of Vieques as new needs arise.

Charity 2: Chilis on Wheels- Puerto Rico
Chilis on Wheels is reactivating its Puerto Rico Chapter to aid in food relief efforts as a result of the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria. Our founders Michelle and Ollie Carrera will be working with existing relief efforts and providing daily meals at multiple locations.

Chilis on Wheels provides plant-based food to people in need of a warm meal.

We believe in treating all living beings with kindness, empathy, and respect regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, language, religion, ability, ethnicity, class, circumstance, environment, level of addiction, or species.

A plant-based diet reduces animal suffering, reduces environmental impact, maximizes the potential to end world hunger, and improves our health.

We encourage the participation of young children in the process of cooking, packing, and distributing the food in our community. It is important that we model behavior, that they see us interact with our community positively, that they hear us speaking of kindness and compassion to animals and people, and that they see us practice those tenets of which we speak.
