The cost of transitioning for a transgender person can get very expensive. This ongoing campaign will help offset the costs of transition and allow me to be the person who I ws born to be.
Firstly, electrolysis is a very costly and timely endeavor. It takes, on average anywhere from 100 to 150 hours worth of work to get rid of all the facial hair on the average transgender woman. At $80 per hour, this can also get very costly. This is very important for many transgender women to help them feel more comfortable with their bodies and be more comfortable in social situations where the sight of beard shadow would cause some awkward questions.
Next there's the expense of getting your name changed. Currently, in New Jersey, it's going to cost me at lest $250 in court fees, plus who knows what other hidden fees there are to legally change my name. Changing my gender on my drivers license will only cost $11, but unfortunately, since I was born in Ohio, I will not be able to change my gender on my birth certificat.
There's also the issue of my voice. I'd love to be able to go get voice lessons, but at $150 a session, it's far from affordable for me.
Lastly, (and this is kind of a bonus for myself) I've always wanted a makover done by a professional. There's a place down in Central NJ that will not only do this, but will also provide lessons on how to walk and act like woman, which will help keep me from sticking out like sore thumb.
Now, I don't expect to actually achieve all these goals, but at this point I'm not above begging for help. Every dollar helps, and will help me pay for some of these things without taking food off my family's table. Thank you!
