My SHIP Internship in El Salvador

Donation protected
Howdy! I am a Senior in the Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences Department at Texas A&M University in College Station. I will graduate in August, after I complete my internship. That internship will be with Shelter the Homeless International Projects, or SHIP, in El Salvador. I had the privilege of going on a SHIP trip over Spring Break. It was an absolutely wonderful trip full of adventure, construction work, friendship formation, language practicing, futbol, Bible study, community, and encouragement. But that was just a one week trip. With this internship, I will be in El Salvador from May 18th through July 15th. As an intern, I will have the opportunity to develop deeper relationships with the people I met over spring break. The majority of my responsibilities will involve preparing for the 5-6 groups coming from the U.S., each staying for one week. Preparations will involve everything from planning the flow of the week, setting goals for the different projects/events, and remaining flexible to deal with last minute changes. These are some responsibilities, but honestly, I will be involved in any place I am needed and not exclusively tied to anything. In short, I will live life in El Salvador. All in one day, I will play with the kids from the neighborhood and orphanage, work with the construction projects, cook, clean, etc. I will get to be a jack-of-all-trades while in El Salvador.

Why make a GoFundMe? Let me explain my situation. This internship is all I need in order to graduate from Texas A&M. The amount of $2,200 for the trip does not take into account the cost of tuition for the "internship" course I will be registered for at Texas A&M while completing this internship. The cost of the internship along with tuition is not something I can handle on my own. I could have taken a more logical and smarter internship that would have been paid and more local, but I believe God is leading me to El Salvador with SHIP. The knowledge and experience I will gain at SHIP will transfer and be useful for my career after college. The $2,200 cost for this internship covers transportation (not airfare), meals, and lodging. I have already bought my plane ticket for $301, which is normally $500-$1000. So praise God for that!

I have received continuous words of encouragement from friends and family regarding this internship. I don't know exactly what God will do through me in El Salvador, but I am certain He will use me. God is doing amazing works in El Salvador. Regardless of the amount in which you choose to support me, or to not support me, I would ask anyone who reads this to pray over SHIP and everyone impacted by SHIP in El Salvador. And for me specifically, pray for my guitar and Spanish skills and for my engagement of the people around me.
