This GoFundMe page has been started to assist Joel Gammage and Catrin Bennett Gammage with medical bills resulting from her leukemia treatment. Please read below Joel's account of their journey so far.
"Hey Everyone,
My wife and I recently went on a roadtrip together to see Catrin Bennett Gammage 's grandma in Sebring, Florida. While on our journey there, Catrin became increasingly Ill. By that time we were already in Destin, Florida and I insisted she see a doctor before we decided whether to return home - 4 days away - or proceed to her grandma's house 13 hours away.
Once we visited the doctor in Destin, he was immediately concerned with her condition and ordered a full blood panel. At that point we decided our safest bet was to proceed to Sebring, Florida to stay with her grandma where she could rest and get her blood work done.
That was two weeks ago. On the first Friday of our journey while resting at her grandma's we got the call: 'Your wife has Acute Leukemia and her platelets are extremely low with a high risk of internal bleeding and very high white cell count.' The doctor insisted I take her immediately to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida to the emergency room where we waited for further information from the medical doctors here.
After an arduously long journey and wait, we finally were admitted to Shands Hospital where she now resides. The doctors confirmed she has APL - Acute Leukemia. We're told she'll have to stay here at Shands in Gainesville for another 3-6 weeks before she can return home for inpatient/outpatient care in Texas. She has around the clock care by some of the best in the medical community.
We are astonished by the outpour of love from friends and family. Catrin's condition often has her unable to speak or be awake long enough for conversations or visitors. Her current state does not allow for visitors as she has no immunity in which to fight off germs or illnesses. So do not attempt to visit, please.

This diagnosis has come as quite a shock as there is no family history of cancer. But with grace and strength, she is fighting. The good news is, APL is a very treatable form of cancer, but it will take time and money. Any donation towards Catrin's medical bills would be greatly appreciated, and will allow her to focus on becoming well. Any amount raised over the goal will be donated to Hays County Pink Heals, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting women who are dealing with cancer.
Catrin is a wife, daughter, sister, friend and all around awesome woman. She is CatStrong! Support her today!
