Cat Rescue Midnight Marathon
$7,305 of $10,000 goal
This year, I'm running to raise funds to help two cat rescue groups: Frankie's Feline Fund ( http://www.frankiesfelinefund.org/)
and Ready for Rescue ( http://www.readyforrescue.org/).
These dedicated animal advocates pull elderly, ill, or otherwise unadoptable cats from the euthanasia lists at area shelters, provide necessary medical care, and place them in foster and forever homes. Between them they've saved literally hundreds of sweet, wonderful cats from an unnecessary end.
Pictured above is toothless "Rizzo" - one of the aforementioned rescues - now living happily here at New York Cat Hospital!
This year's run will be a MIDNIGHT MARATHON. The "race" will start at midnight on Father's Day eve, and finish in the wee hours at...Mc Donalds! (Seriously...I'll be hungry.) To the best of my knowlege, this is New York's first and only MIDNIGHT MARATHON!
I'll be running with headlamps and a taser (to defend against coyotes), while live-tweeting my position in case of attack. (Only half-joking here.)
Please help support the selfless, good-hearted work of Ready For Rescue and Frankie's Feline Fund with a donation.
The campaign will close in a few days, at which time Frankie's Feline Fund and Ready for Rescue will receive checks with which to continue their heartfelt, loving good work.
So THANK YOU again. Know that your donation will indeed help these sweet, special cats.
It was an unusual run, no doubt. Genuinely scary at first: much of the trail is in the middle of nowhere, and despite a full moon…very, very dark. I could see only what the headlamp illuminated in front of me. Moreover, I didn't see a single soul for six hours.
But after a while the fear subsided, I put on some headphones, and just ran. Though physically exhausting, I never really felt sleepy. And it was invigorating to run at daybreak.
And as planned/promised, when finished I made a bee line for McDonald's and indulged in some Sausage McGriddles and Hash Browns! Not as good as I remembered...but still hit the spot.
The campaign will remain open a few more weeks.
If you’ve also helped spread the word to other potential supporters, thank you! If you haven’t, please consider forwarding my campaign link and/or sharing it with your friends on Facebook. Here’s the link: https://www.gofundme.com/catmarathon
