If ever there was a woman that has fought hard for anything and anyone, it would be our good friend Cathie Cook. Her story is a hard story to imagine, but knowing she is still here to tell you that she is a fighter and won’t give up is the biggest blessing for her family, friends and colleagues.
She was first fighting head to head with cancer back in 2011. She endured surgery after surgery. Reconstruction. And just when she starts to feel good again, it returns. She made a decision to make a life-saving investment in the direction of herbal remedies. She had heard so much good from it, but it was so pricey and insurance didn’t cover. So between paying her medical bills, fighting to stay working to gain her income, and recovering from surgery, the fight didn’t afford her the hope of trying the herbal direction, until friends and family came together to fund for her. Through tears and great gratitude, she gave the herbal remedy a try and the cancer that had attacked her again went away. The nightmare was over and she embarked on going after her dream – owning her own paint and sip establishment. This required a lot of her time to work, managing two jobs and still enduring surgery to remove all the scar tissue that accumulated over the years. But to her, the nightmare was over and life could truly begin.
And it reappeared again. Just recently. The cancer has returned to her lymph nodes, around her abdominal aorta. Her doctors are recommending surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. The surgery gives her a 50% survival rate due to the risk of cutting her aorta that would cause her to bleed to death.
Her herbal doc, and the medical docs are providing a tug of war on what she should do, but in the end, Cathie has to survive and beat this. Her medical insurance premiums will now cost over $2,000 per month, plus she will need to pay for holistic herbal treatments out of pocket. She is on the cusp of losing her income because she has not been able to work at her full time job. And her dream job? She is saturated in debt from loans to make her dream come true, so even with her paint and sip company seemingly doing well, she sadly isn't able to earn an income from that business either.
Her time is running short, and we have all asked for prayer. At this point, knowing her risk and financial pain, this mother of two, wife, and amazing friend to hundreds of people in and around her community needs everyone’s help to survive physically, financially through the beast of cancer’s attack. She wants to live and cries almost daily in fear of the unknown.
