Catch 365 Tour of Hope

I am an author and storyteller. I usually write books about baseball and life. Here's a link to several of them on Amazon.

Inspired by my daughters, I made a resolution to play catch every day of 2018. Cut4 and MLB.com  wrote about my story back in January when they were desperate for any story related to baseball.  

Over the next couple of weeks, I received invitations to play catch from coast to coast. My wife didn’t understand why so many people wanted to play catch. I just shrugged my shoulders and bought multiple tubes of Icy Hot.

I’m more than 130 days into this catch-playing quest. I’ve played catch with people of all ages and abilities — from Miracle League ballplayers to Jim “The Rookie” Morris whose baseball story is near miraculous.

Each day, I look for people who will toss a ball and take a selfie with me. I then write the stories of my catch-playing friends. .

I’m now looking at one, maybe two, possibly three Catch 365 road trips this summer. The first one would be the Tour of Hope. Two thousand miles in ten days going through:


Kansas City, MO

Omaha, NE

Sioux Falls, SD

Wallingford, IA

Davenport, IA

Rockford, IL

Chicago, IL

Stories on the first trip will focus on people living out courageous hope. Some days will have multiple games of catch. Funds will help with basic travel expenses: gas, food, hotels, laundry, vehicle maintenance.

Writing has taught me what it means to live a good story. Never give up. Take ridiculous risks. Become an expert in failure and rejection. Cling to hope with every fiber of your being. And the best stories are only possible through the help of friends.

I am convinced that baseball brings people together and tells the best stories.
