Catalina Channel Crossing

Donation protected
Dear friends, supporters, acquaintances, and strangers,

The Catalina Channel Crossing in the stroke of butterfly was a success! I became the first American to swim the Channel in the stroke of butterfly and beat previous record by 2 hours, in a time of 12 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds.

You deserve the biggest "thank you" possible; thank you for your support, for believing in my cause, and for believing in me.

The true fire behind my decision to swim the Catalina Channel was my desire to swim for a cause; destitution and homelessness. At one point in my life, I experienced these dilemmas. Having pushed past those conditions, I want to use this crossing to contribute to the communities fighting against poverty, oppression, ostracism, inequality, racial injustice, and other factors that contribute to homelessness. This crossing was dedicated to these communities.

I did this crossing to support three non-profit organizations named God’s Extended Hand Mission, in San Diego, CA, the Rachel's Women's Center in San Diego, CA, and Jazzie’s Place in San Francisco, CA. God’s Extended Hand Mission provides emergency shelter, food, clothing, medical care, and hot meals to poverty-stricken children, women, and men. Rachel's Women's Center, working alongside the Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego, provides a safe and supportive environment for women to access the resources they need to get back on their feet. Jazzie’s Place, working alongside with Dolores Street Community Services, also provides emergency resources to destitute and homeless individuals. JP is also the nations first emergency shelter for LGBTQIA adults. All organizations provide a safe place for individuals fleeing from discrimination and/or intolerance. Poverty is the absence of choice; now that I have the privilege to choose my challenges, and in doing so I want to support organizations that help those who do not currently have that option. I built resilience by doing this crossing.  ANY amount will benefit these organizations, and boost my fundraising efforts. The links can be found below. All donations are tax-deductible.

Donations to this Go Fund Me page will be open for a few more weeks.

As always, much love and gratitude to each and every individual who has mentored me on a voluntary-basis throughout my training process. Without you, I would not know half of the science behind successfully completing a marathon swim. You know who you are ;) and thank you.

Melissa
