Cassie's Medical Bills

Donation protected
This sweet baby is Cassie.  Her racing name was Bet Again.   She has been on her own for almost 5 years, living in the woods of Smyrna and LaVergne, TN...until this morning, Monday, 2/13/2017!!

Here is her story...

She was brought to Tennessee on a hauler in March of 2012.  She was a bit of a spook.  Within 12 hours after arriving, she was with her foster family and was spooked and escaped.  A large scale search went underway for months, but no one was able to find or catch this sweet girl.

Last week, Music City Greyhound Adoption (MCGA) received a call from a wonderful woman named Tonya, who said she has a brindle greyhound that comes and sleeps at the back of her fence every night.  She has seen this dog for about 3 years.  She would leave blankets and food out for her, but she never could get close enough to catch her.  She would always run off into the woods behind her home.

MCGA had just received a gift from a former greyhound group (Shamrock) of a greyhound trap.  They had this trap for many years and never had to use it.  We had it less than 2 weeks and found we had a need for it.

We went on Friday afternoon and set the trap up with lots of chicken and other yummy items.  We just knew that would get her inside the trap.  The next morning, we hear that we caught something....a very angry kitty cat!!

So, we reset the trap on Saturday and put some more yummy food in it.   On Sunday, we go to check on the trap and the bowl is outside the trap.  That cheeky girl was able to snatch the bowl out without setting off the mechanism.

Finally, we had to be smarter about this.  We bolted the bowl on the back of the trap and laid a sweater that she had been sleeping on over the mechanism.  Monday morning, we got the message that she was caught!!!  Finally!  After almost 5 years in the woods, we finally have this sweet girl caught.

We carted her to the vet immediately.  She was very shy, but loving.  She let us give her hugs and pets.  We were able to verify that her tattoos matched the missing girl!

Now, we are asking for your help.  We will expect many medical bills as a result of her being on her own for so long.  There will be the immediate needs of bloodwork and other tests, plus flea and tick treatments, bathing, etc.  Then there will be more long-term costs if she is heartworm positive, tick disease, or other canine diseases.

Cassie is a MIRACLE.  We have talked to so many people who have never heard of a greyhound surviving on its own for so long.  Please help us give her a miracle back by getting her healthy and ready for her forever home and couch!!
