Carson Pforsich Rehab Fund

$46,070 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 305 people in 4 months
Created September 26, 2017
Carson sustained a serious spinal injury on Sunday, 9/22/2017 while swimming near Bodega Bay. He broke his neck, and required surgery to stabilize his spine. He is likely going to require months of rehab, but Carson is strong, he's a fighter, and he's in the best shape of his life. He will be transferring to an out of county facility soon, which will require his family to stay somewhere in the area. Your donations will be used to help with all of the expenses necessary to help Carson get back on his feet. For updates, go to https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/carsonsrecovery

Carson Update 2/14/2018

Hi Everyone- We wanted to give you all an update on Carson.

First and foremost, to everyone who has donated, sent a note, said a prayer, or sent positive energy, please accept our sincere and overdue thank you. All of your kindness has been incredible, and honestly, it’s impossible to overstate how much this has helped Carson, Kelsey, Andrea, Andy, and the rest of Carson’s family in dealing with Carson’s situation.

As you might imagine, there are some great days, some good days, and some downright bad days. All of you and your positive energy really, really help on those dark days. Thankfully, those are few, and Carson has shown strength, spirit, and an indefatigable level of courage throughout his ordeal.

We all feed off of his energy, his sense of irony and humor, and his positivity.

Carson continues to make progress both physically and mentally. If you haven’t kept up through his Caring Bridge Page, he is back to school. He has a state of the art electric wheelchair that has really helped him with being independent. He continues to use it, even as he works out every day to get to the point of being strong enough to use a manual chair that was recently purchased. He looks forward to the day when he can use the manual chair, and he is getting closer every day.

In the past month, Carson has regained feeling out to the tips of three fingers in each hand.  In physical therapy he was able to be on his belly and up on his elbows for thirty minutes which indicates that his core and abdominal muscles are gaining significant strength.  These are positive signs that he is slowly but surely progressing and that things are waking up.

As we have said before, he has a long road to full recovery, but we all continue to believe he can and will do this. There are so many things to be thankful for, not the least of which is, again, the positive energy and financial assistance so many of you have selflessly given. To that end, Insurance has helped a lot, but there are still very real costs to the family. Please know that every dollar sent, from the big donations on this page to the cans for coins we have seen at so many Sebastopol businesses, to the selfless fundraisers big and small....Carson,,his family, and all of us around him are awestruck and overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and strangers alike. We feel the love, and it helps make us all #pforsichstrong.

Thank you again for all of the love, and if you or someone you know can help, any amount is greatly appreciated.

Thursday 9/28 update on Carson: He is sitting up in his chair :) He just finished breakfast. Rice Krispies, milk and apple Juice. Lots of ice chips today. Starting his 3rd cup. Dr. Birch came in and said that the plan for today is the same as planned, to get almost everything disconnected over the weekend, and move to Santa Clara Spinal early next week.

Carson asked if there was a way to check to see if the swelling has gone down. Dr. Birch said that they could do another MRI if things were changing with his feeling (if worse), but the fact that things are slowly improving makes him feel that an MRI is not going to tell him much more than what we know already. He positively and strongly encouraged the rehab coming up. He will be back tomorrow. Getting lots of milk shakes! Eating solid foods. Having Mac and cheese for dinner :)
Thank you to ALL OF YOU for the positive thoughts, messages, calls and prayers. Please feel free to share this. You are all amazing, over $14k raised in a few short days. Carson and his family feel all of your love and support.
