Carol Martin's Rare Medical Illness

Donation protected
On May 27th, 2016, a scratch appeared on Carol's right leg and by the next day, she collapsed in front of her bedroom doorway. Once in the emergency room, the last thing Carol remembers of that night was visibly seeing her flesh being eaten away.  She was diagnosed with Necrotizing Fasciitis. This is a rare form of flesh eating disorder. There are less than one-hundred cases of this disease in the United States per year. Carol's case had been one of the most extreme cases in over a decade that Northwest Community Hospital had ever encountered.

Carol had several surgeries through out the following three months, after nearly losing her life the first twenty four hours of arriving at the hospital. This horrible infection has caused her to lose both of her legs below the knee. As of August 25th, she was put back into surgery and lost her left hand also her fingers on her right hand. She remains in the hospital as of today, not knowing exactly when she will be able to finally return home.

Carol and her family are devistated along with those who know her from Prospect High School. She touched the hearts of many throughout her decades of work at PHS. She is known and loved for her kindness  by students, parents, and coworkers all around prospect. This sudden life changing event has been heart breaking with the already accumulated medical and future physical therapy bills which are probable to arise for the family. Carol's hopes are to be home by November, although the doctor estimates that it will be closer to a year until then.

This fund will help set Carol's hopes in motion by helping her get prostetics and modfying her home to be accessible to her. Without these modifications she will not be able to return to her comforting home of thrity-five years. As you can see any help at all in this life-altering situation would be greatly appreciated as every thought and prayer we are even more thankful. This means so much to us because she is such a loving and caring person with students and everybody she knows.
