Carl Sagan Day Fund - Annual Event

I'm Jeffry Halverson, an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). CCU is a state liberal arts university in Conway, South Carolina (right near Myrtle Beach!). You can check out the university's website here: www.coastal.edu.
My colleagues and I at CCU are organizing a public lecture on campus to celebrate Carl Sagan Day on November 9, 2017. The public lecture will be delivered by NASA research scientist Dr. Joel S. Levine on human exploration of Mars. The event will be free to students, staff, faculty, and community members. In addition to the public lecture, we're organizing a visual arts exhibit, interdisciplinary faculty panel discussions, and other activities.
This is Wheelwright Auditorium, the venue on campus where the public lecture will happen. Cornel West spoke to a packed house here earlier this year:
As of December 22, 2016, I was able to raise the necessary funds for our inaugural event in 2017 thanks to the generosity of friends, family, community members, science supporters, and various units at the university. We hope to make the Carl Sagan Day public science lecture an annual event, and all funds raised by this GoFundMe account will be donated directly to the Carl Sagan Day Fund at the university. If you're interested in supporting this project, but don't want to donate via GoFundMe, you can also contact Diane Sanders in the CCU Office for Philanthropy about the "Carl Sagan Day Fund."
If you're like me, the late Cornell University cosmoloist, astrophysicist and science educator Carl Sagan (d. 1996) made you excited to learn, and he profoundly shaped how you looked at the world (and beyond it!). His 1994 commentary on the famous "Pale Blue Dot" image taken during the Voyager mission in 1990 encapsulates for me Carl's blunt but compassionate and hopeful vision for the human race as one planetary species with a shared destiny.
