Jessica, aged 4, has been battling stage four Neuroblastoma, an aggressive cancer of the nervous system, for a little over twelve months. On 5th October, during a routine clinic appointment it was discovered that this cancer is now showing further signs of progression.

The conversation with Jessica's oncologist has revealed that in his experience, with the progression he has seen, he believes that Jessica's expected life should now be measured in months rather than anything more.

As you may imagine our family has been rocked to the core by this latest revelation. We knew that this day could and most likely would come but we were certainly not expecting it to come so soon, especially not after her appearing to do so well after her last course of radiation treatment.

We are now preparing to try and give Jessica as much happiness and enjoyment is as possible in whatever time we have left with her. We hope and we believe that this happiness and enjoyment will provide Jessica with a welcome and needed distraction from the certain onset of symptoms related to this progression.

The monies raised will help to support, care for and provide enjoyment through days out, treats and possibly a few nights away. We want to create as many happy memories as is possible in the remaining time we have with Jessica.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support through this last twelve months, as a family we are overwhelmed with the help we have had.

We as a family would like to thank you for the overwhelming response and for your extremely kind donations. Unfortunately Jessica is deteriorating quicker than we would have hoped and we have therefore decided to close this campaign. We have posted an update on Jessica Whelan - A Fight Against Neuroblastoma, her Facebook page. We as a family will be spending the coming days comforting her before choosing some charities close to Jessica's and our own hearts to help with donations. These chosen charities will be posted at some point in the future on Jessica's page. We will be choosing charities that will further research into childhood cancer so that hopefully someday in the future fewer children and families have to endure the same fate as ourselves.

Once again, I would like to offer our thanks for your support, messages and donations. Please if you have not done so already, follow Jessica's page to follow further updates.

I saw Andy's photo shared on one of the photography groups I follow. It completely struck me, and I then found Jessica's FB page. I know there are no words that can even touch on this, but I wanted to say that I'm so so deeply sorry that you and your family have to go through this. I can't imagine, and it was breaking my heart scrolling through the updates. Jessica is such a beautiful and strong little girl. I also wanted to share this. Norm is a local in our area (around Philadelphia, PA) and he dedicated a year of his life to walk across the US while spreading awareness for childhood cancer last year.
