Chad C's Medical Help

$7,205 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 128 people in 9 months
This GoFundMe is being set up for Chad for medical needs now and as yet unknown procedures in the future.  We want to thank everyone who has shown love, concern & support for Chad & our family this week, during his health emergency.

Long story short as a kid, Chad experienced a kidney issue when it was discovered he had a kink in his ureter tube that goes to the kidney. He had surgery, then a stent, & from age 13 to age 30 he has lived a healthy, active life. Four years ago, it was discovered that he was in stage 3 kidney disease, when double pneumonia & pink eye landed him in the ER & we learned there were kidney issues.

Over the course of this past week, he has undergone a handful of Dialysis treatments to adequate clean the blood in his kidneys. The near future still lands us at Mayo Clinic with still more testing and watching including a biopsy which will hope to guide our next direction.

Currently Chad is in stage 4; which leads us to unknown journeys ahead.  The possibility of the kidney restoring itself.  Potential for long term Dialysis Treatment and down the road, most likely Transplant.  The staff on ICU & Joseph have been outstanding.

Chad has been a Photojournalist at TV6 for 11 years, and has enjoyed seeing the many adventures and journeys of those in SEMN.  The stress of losing his Dad just months ago & now this health emergency causes him & our entire family anxiety ~ anyone who knows Chad, knows his nature is happy, fun-loving, positive & he has the heart to help others always. ALL this medical care comes at a price, it's Mayo -- with all the tests & nearing a week so far of hospitalization, added to the future procedures needed, there will be great need to reach out & ask his friends and family to help him in his time of need.

With the outpouring of support shown so far, we are hoping this GoFundMe gets out to ALL those that know & love him & pray that if you can help, you will feel led to....as well as sharing the heck out of this GoFundMe.  In his 11 years so far being a photojournalist, he has met a lot of great people and made amazing connections.

THANK YOU, one and all! Bless you.

THANK YOU everyone, for your caring posts, tweets, visits, messages and calls. Chad and his donor Chris Douglas both are continuing to heal and recover. Both can still use lots of prayer for increased strength and energy, to be able to fully resume their lives. Chad has daily clinic visits for a few weeks so they can monitor him very closely, and regular appts for basically all of his life. There are no words to express what this gift of life means - other than 'grateful' and 'thankful' and 'blessed'.

Do something nice for someone you can help today. As compassionate donor Chris said, "you only get one go-round, why wouldn't you do something to help someone else have a good go-round, too?" Wise words.

Please share.

A picture is worth 1,000 words, and this one is no exception! We are so grateful to report that Chad and Chris had a most successful kidney transplant day on Monday!! Chris as donor had some blood pressure issues, but he is doing great, and was discharged today! Chad continues to do well and his Dr. Bentall today said that his progress has exceeded his expectations! Chad may be discharged tomorrow, after some more education and aftercare classes. He will have daily Mayo Clinic visits for a couple weeks. To all of our amazing prayer warriors, thank you! Please continue! More to follow later.....it's been a whirlwind of activity this week.

It is time for an update on Chad's journey to health. Back 21 years ago when Chad was 13, he had his first kidney problem and surgery. Four years ago, after becoming seriously ill with double pneumonia, it was found that he had Stage 3 Kidney Failure/IGA Renal Nephropathy. Last Summer, he became critically ill, spent 15 days in St. Mary's ICU and was diagnosed with Stage 4/End Stage renal failure. We were told that it was "the end of the line" for his kidneys and that he would need a transplant ASAP. Since August, he has endured hundreds of hours of dialysis 3 times every week, with lots of very early mornings in all kinds of weather, despite car issues, not feeling well, and with intense physical fatigue. I am SO proud of him, because he never missed a single appointment ~ most often was early, seldom complained, followed his renal diet and his exhaustive meds routine, all while working full-time in his job as Chief Photojournalist for KAAL-TV6; working through the grief of losing his Dad/my husband Steve; and always being there for me, his Mom. I've been told by several, including his donor, that Chad is a very special young man. Indeed he is.

Thanks to God and Chad's donor Chris, all of this led us to today, when Chad had multiple pre-op appointments at Mayo in preparation for Monday - aka TRANSPLANT DAY! There are no words to express my/our family's thanks to Chris and his family for his kind, caring and selfless gift. It is truly the gift of life for Chad. We are asking God's favor and blessings on all of the procedures that will happen on Monday.

The financial need is real and growing, now with the costs of both surgeries, and Chad's need for lifelong anti-rejection drugs. Please help if you are able to and feel so led to give. Also, please share the heck out of this post for awareness. Most importantly, I ask you to please remember Chad and Chris with your prayers on Monday, and for the transplant team and surgeons, and all medical staff that will touch them in the coming days, weeks and months ahead. Pray for an easy and FULL recovery for Chris and for God to bless him greatly for being the hands and feet (and kidney!) to help Chad through this. Pray for Chad to experience a FULL recovery and return to 100% HEALTH, and that he will start to feel so well and have energy he hasn't felt in years. Thank you all that have been so good to our family and to Chad. We will update as we can next week. Don't miss the story on TV6 news Sunday night! See link below for promo.
