BIG Truck 2019 Pride Fundraiser

Tax deductible
Dear Community, Friends, Family, and Allies,

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, the Caribbean Equality Project  (CEP), in partnership with Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD), Gay Caribbean, and Island Pride Boston will proudly participate in the 2019 Queens Pride Parade , Brooklyn Pride Parade  and the NYC WorldPride March to represent the growing Caribbean LGBTQ+ community in the diaspora. This year, our goal is to honor the legacy of “The Big Truck,” which was a tradition created by Trinidad-born activist Colin Robinson of Caribbean Pride in the late 90’s (a tradition which was continued by Trinidadian activist, Tina Arniotis of Chutney Pride and Guyanese immigrant and LGBTQ rights activist, Mohamed Q. Amin of the Caribbean Equality Project). At present, CEP has since set the benchmark and standard, by becoming the Carnival destination for Caribbean LGBTQ people in the 2019 PRIDE events.

We will march to continue amplifying visibility, representation and affirming Caribbean LGBTQ+ identities under the colorfully inclusive theme: “Prideful Mosaic: LGBTQ People of the Caribbean.” This aligns with our effort to present a contingent inclusive of our Afro- and Indo-Caribbean cultural backgrounds and ancestry, as we continue advocating for an equitable society based on respect, inclusion, and equality, regardless of an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity within the Caribbean diaspora. Join us as we PRIDEfully celebrate our diverse Caribbean heritage at WorldPride 2019 in New York City!

In this regard, in order to fully execute our vision and represent the Caribbean LGBTQ+ community, we need YOUR support! We are humbly asking our PRIDEful rainbow family, established community partners, friends, family and allies for financial support to help defray the costs of the above participation in the 2019 PRIDE parades and fundraising events.

Some of these costs include but are not limited to: registrations, truck rentals, entertainment (DJs and sound), decorations, cost of the venue for our upcoming Live Yuh Life social in Queens (CEP & GMAD’s secondary Pride Launch Social Fundraiser) and swag (giveaway items) for distribution at the aforementioned events. With your financial sponsorship, we hope to accomplish these goals that we have outlined.

As part of our programming, we will be creating an unprecedented opportunity for the Queer & the Gender Non-Conforming Caribbean community in the diaspora, to celebrate our rich and vibrant culture at three PRIDE Marches/parades in 2019:
Sunday, June 2, 2019: Queens Pride Parade
Saturday, June 8, 2019: Brooklyn Pride Parade
Sunday, June 30, 2019: BIG TRUCK at WorldPride- NYC Pride March
